Anesu Twala is back in the ring after a year away - and aiming high

The Lewisham super-lightweight ends a 13-month break from boxing when he fights on manager Mickey Helliet’s show at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, October 12.

Twala said: “I was supposed to box towards the end of the year, but my opponent pulled out and then I had a death in the family, so I had to take time out.

“Now I’m back I want to make up for lost time. I want to be active for the next 12 months and see where it takes me.

“I think the sky is the limit for me. I know I’ve been out for a while and I need to get used to being back in the ring again. But I’m very ambitious. I want to take the traditional route and the first step is the Southern Area title.”

Twala says he also wants to help his trainer make a name for himself.

Daley Perales was a pro boxer and Twala said: “I want him to get well known by me winning titles.

“We’ve been together around three years. Daley is looking to prove himself as a coach – and I’m going to help him do it.”

Twala’s four wins from five fights have all come on points, but he’s convinced the knockouts will come.

He said: “I’m a patient counter puncher. I work behind the jab and look for openings. The knockouts don’t see to come when you go looking for them. I’m just working on my skills and when everything comes together, I will get knockouts.”
