Ashley Theophane is coming home for the next fight of his globetrotting career.

Promoter Mickey Helliet has announced the former world-title challenger from North London will box on his show at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, June 22.

For 38 year old Theophane, it will be his first fight in Britain since he lost his British super-lightweight title to Darren Hamilton in May, 2012.

He went on to team up with Floyd Mayweather and in their five years together, Theophane got a shot at the WBA championship, losing in nine rounds to   Adrien Broner.

He asked to be released from his contract with Mayweather last year “to go on a world tour” and he’s since fought in Germany, Hungary, Ghana, Poland, Mexico and Dubai.

Next, Theophane fights at the York Hall, where he launched his pro career way back in June, 2003.

He said: “I’m training back home now and I want my family and friends to see me.

“When I saw this show was on, I reached out to Mickey. I’ve known him for over 20 years and I know he’s cool.

“He’s the small-hall promoter I wanted to work with.

“This is a one off for me. I know I’m coming towards the end of my career and really, I want big fights now.

“I’ve been offered a big fight in Toronto and if that comes off and I win, maybe I can get a big, big fight afterwards.”

Theophane says he was hoping for a fight with Terry Flanagan, the ex WBO lightweight champion who is now up at 10 stones.

He said: “Flanagan is a great fight for both of us. He’s had back-to-back losses and I would have been a good name for him to come back against.

“Flanagan and Ricky Burns were the ones I wanted, but they didn’t come off.

“I just need to keep winning to keep my name out there and wait for the right fight to come along. But I know this is the home straight. I know I’m near the end.”

Theophane lost twice in his first 11 pro fights - to journeymen Judex Meemea and Oscar Milkitas – and went on to win British honours, push Danny Garcia to a split and lose to Broner in a world-title fight.

“That fight with Broner was the top of the mountain for me,” said Theophane. “I didn’t win the fight, but just to get there after everything I went through was an achievement. I could have quit long before I got there, but I stuck at it and fought for the world title. In my next fight I topped the bill in Las Vegas (a points win over Yakubu Amidu) and not many British fighters can say they’ve done that. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved.”
