Danny Gale reckons his big punch can take him all the way to the British super-middleweight championship.

At 28, Gale launches his professional boxing career at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, October 6 – and he should be fun to watch.

Gale says his approach to boxing is: ‘I get them before they get me !’

The punching plasterer explained: ‘’I’ve got a big punch and I’m looking to stop my opponents.

‘’I want to start fast, get in there first and put in on them before they put it on me.

‘’I’ve built my confidence in the gym. I’m getting the better of lads who were bashing me up a few weeks ago and now I’m ready to go.

‘’I want to be a winner. I’m hoping to enjoy my boxing career and win the British title.’’

Gale is being guided by the experienced Maidenhead team of Chris McDonagh and Jim Evans and says tickets are selling well for his professional debut.

‘’I’m going to have good support.’’ he said, ‘’and I don’t want to let them down.’’

In his teens, Gale had 17 bouts for Marlow ABC before drifting away.

‘’I was an idiot when I was younger,’’ he said. ‘’I used to play up and that’s why I didn’t stick with boxing.

‘’I was too busy being stupid !

‘’I went back to the amateur gym a few months ago to do some sparring, but the coaches said I was too strong for their lads and I should turn pro.

‘’I didn’t really get my head down and give it everything when I was an amateur, but I’m putting everything into it now.’’

Gale says his son Danny jr and four stepchildren are his inspiration.

‘’I want them to know their dad was a professional boxer,’’ he said, ‘’and a winner.’’

Tickets for the show at the York Hall are available from 07900 006556.
