Harlow cruiserweight Michael Ibrahim is determined his supporters will see the real him at the York Hall in Bethnal Green next month

Harlow cruiserweight Michael Ibrahim is determined his supporters will see the real him at the York Hall in Bethnal Green next month.

Ibrahim got a shock on his professional boxing debut, losing to Kent Kauppinen in February.

Rather than walk away from boxing, the 28 year old has vowed to fight on – and show his true capabilities.

He’s set to be matched in on manager Mickey Helliet’s show at the York Hall on Saturday, May 4 and said: “I will be ready this time.

“I know what pro boxing is all about now and I know I have to be fitter.

“The most disappointing thing is that I didn’t give my best.

“My friends who have seen me spar and fight before said: ‘That wasn’t you in there, Michael’ and that’s how I feel.

“The motivation now is to show everyone what I can really do. I want everyone to know that I can fight.”

Ibrahim revealed a rematch with Kauppinen is likely. “I asked for a rematch straightaway,” he said. “I couldn’t believe I had lost a fight like that. I was shocked – and so was everyone else who knows me who saw it.”

Ibrahim says he paid the price for looking for the knockout on his debut.

He said: “I thought I just about nicked the first round and I started to get on top in the second.

“I really wanted to knock him out and I think he knew it – and he knew what to do.

“He didn’t try to fight me, he just kept his defences tight and blocked my punches.

“He was just waiting for me to gas and when I did, he started throwing back and catching me. It was a tough lesson to learn, but I won’t make the same mistake again.”
