Heavyweight News: Povetkin, Hammer, Breazeale, Molina

Alexander Povetkin, 32-1 (23), will fight Christian Hammer, 22-4 (12), on 15th Deecmber. The two eastern European heavyweights are both ranked highly with the WBO and WBA, and the winner could expect to be made mandatory for Anthony Joshua or Joshua Parker, an obligation Joshua would be keen to fulfil in order to keep his belt, as we reported on Hellraiser Boxing on Monday.

38 year old Povetkin has only ever lost to Wladimir Klitschko, while 30 year old Hammer has been beaten four times, most notably by Tyson Fury and Mariusz Wach. Hammer did produce an excellent performance, coming through adversity against David Price in London to halt Price in the seventh.

In a busy news week for the heavyweight division it has also been announced that Saturday's fight between two Anthony Joshua victims, Dominic Breazeale, 18-1 (16), and Erik Molina, 26-4 (19), will be a final eliminator for the WBC belt held by Deontay Wilder. The two Americans will meet on the under card of the Wilder versus Bermane Stiverne.

Wilder is odds on favourite to retain the belt against the man he beat for it almost three years ago and therefore be the opponent for whoever wins between Molina and Breazeale. Stiverne has fought once since that loss, and although he is the only man to take Wilder the distance, Deontay has threatened to retire if he loses, such an upset would it be.
