Hollywood Taking Off The L Plates For Assault On Super Welter Division

HollywoodJosh Ejakpovi says he’s ready to get rid of the ‘L’ plates after teaming up with the trainer he believes can take him to the top.

The Marleybone super-welterweight launches what could be a make-or-break year at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, February 10.

He fights over six rounds on manager Mickey Helliet’s show and will have Richard Williams.

Williams was a stylish Commonwealth super-welterweight champion during his own ring career and Ejakpovi says he has gelled with him during their training sessions at Miguel’s gym in Brixton.

“Richard has a lot of knowledge,” said Ejakpovi, “and he articulates himself really well.

“I always ask a lot of questions when we’re training and Richard gives me good answers.

“He tells me why we’re doing what we’re doing.

“Everything Richard says to me makes perfect sense.”

Ejakpovi had his first fight under Williams last November, a points win over Scott James, and looks to make it 10 wins out of 10 next month.

“(Manager) Mickey (Helliet) says that once we get to 10-0, we will go looking for titles,” said Ejakpovi.

“I believe I’m ready for bigger fights now.

“I had to adjust when I turned pro, to the boxing and the business side of things, and I’ve learned a lot in my first nine fights.

“I feel as though I’m a totally different fighter now and I have the trainer who can help me climb up through the levels.”

Ejakpovi hopes to be targeting the Challenge belt at 11 stones this year and then the Southern Area championship, currently held by Matt McCarthy.

“I’m looking for a big year,” he said, “and I’m training full time. Boxing is dangerous and you have to do it properly.”

Tickets for the show are available from 07438864009.
