Jeffrey Ofori: It's My Time Now

Hackney super-featherweight Jeffrey Ofori says he’s ready roll the dice in 2018.

Ofori takes a big step forward in his fourth professional fight at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, February 10.

For the first time in his pro career, the 27 year old is set to be matched over six rounds – and he says the fight marks the start of a make-or-break year for him.

“I believe it’s my time right now,” he said, “and I want to push on and have five or six fights this year.

“I don’t want to be fighting too many journeymen. I want to find out if I’ve got what it takes.”

Ofori has a good amateur pedigree behind him, having captained Islington ABC during his 36-bout career, and takes confidence from sparring the likes of European super-lightweight champion Anthony Yigit.

“The sparring has helped me push on no end,” he said.

“I spar top-quality guys and I spar lots of rounds with them as well.”

Ofori accepts that three fights into his pro career, he’s still adapting after making the switch from the amateurs.

“I’m a boxer-puncher really,” he said, “but I’ve been a bit too aggressive in my pro fights so far.

“I’ve been getting carried away and turning what should be easy fights into tougher fights than they should be. I’m used to boxing over three rounds in the amateurs and I’m learning how to pace myself over the longer distances.”

Ofori is convinced that once he’s gained the necessary experience, he can go on to win major honours.

“I want the Southern Area title this year,” he said, “and then I want to push on and win as many titles as I can.

“I’m hoping I can go all the way.”

Tickets for the show at the York Hall are available from 07704606744.
