Jordan Blake wants another tough fight when he gets back in the ring next month.

The 25 year old from Aveley looks to make it two wins from two as a professional super-middleweight at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, May 4.

He launched his pro career with a points win over Zygimantas Butkevicius in February and said: “I could have had an easier opponent for my debut !

“He was in shape, very tough and wanted to win.

“I hadn’t boxed for 18 months and it was a tough debut, but I thought it went OK.

“It did me more good than knocking someone out in the first round.

“I don’t want to have easy fights on the way up and then get a shock when I step up in class.

“That happens to some prospects and I don’t want it to happen to me.

“I like to get tested. I never had any pushovers in my amateur career and knowing you’re facing a tough opponent drives you on in the gym.

“If I knew I was going to win by early knockout, it would be tempting to cut corners in the gym.”

Blake says he did go for the knockout on his debut. “I know I can punch,” he said, “and I really wanted the knockout to start my pro career.

“I hit him with some good hard shots, but he didn’t move and tried to hit me back.”

Blake took good support with him to Bethnal Green for his debut and said: “It would be great to see everyone there again next month.

“I’m not going to make any big predictions about what I’m going to do. I just think that every time I get in the ring, it will be an improved performance because I’m always learning new things in the gym.”
