Kaylem Foreman makes his professional boxing debut next month - due to popular demand !

The 21 year old super-welterweight from Carshalton and has been snapped up by manager Mickey Helliet and fights on his show at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, May 4.

Foreman showed promise during an 18-bout amateur career that brought 15 wins, but it looked as though his boxing career was over – until the local public persuaded him otherwise !

Bernard Foreman, Kaylem’s father and coach, said: “Everywhere he went, people were saying to Kaylem: ‘How come you don’t box anymore ? You were good.’

“He kept hearing this and I said to him: ‘If you’re going to turn pro, you need to do it now, don’t wait any longer.’

“I didn’t want him turning pro late and trying to get up there too quickly.

“By turning pro now, he can take his time, build his record and make his moves when the time is right.”

Bernard boxed himself, having 42 amateur bouts, but his professional ambitions were ended by an accident.

He says he sees something of himself in his son, but added: “Kaylem has his own style.

“I used to get in there and move around with him, but because he was sparring his dad, he used to hold back. I’m not as young as I was and I don’t want to hold him back. He has to be able to let his shots go in sparring, so I don’t spar him anymore!”

Kaylem was seven years old when he first went to the boxing gym. “He grew up around boxing,” said Bernard, “but was always in and out of the gym.

“He sparred a few pros recently, held his own with them and that’s convinced him he should turn over himself.”

Tickets for the show at the York Hall are available from 07979 833869.
