Milch Changes Trainer Ahead Of "Last Shot" At Glory

Highgate super-welterweight Tony Milch has changed trainers ahead of a crucial spell in his ring career.

His fight at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, February 10 is his first since losing in five rounds to Matt McCarthy for the vacant Southern Area belt last October.

Milch has since left trainer Ian Burbedge for Josh Burnham and the 36 year old explained: “I needed a change.

“I was feeling a bit stale and it was hard travelling to Morden to train. I was  only training three times a week whereas now I’m training at a gym 20 minutes from my house and I’m there every day.

“I got to 13-0 training three times a week and let’s see how I perform now I’m doing it properly.

“Going to this new gym has given me a real push.

“I know this is my last shot at it.

“I still believe I can win the Southern Area title and go further, but I need to get a win to get back in the mix.

“I’ve asked for a tough six round fight and once this one way is out of the way, I will be ready for anyone.”

Milch insists his supporters didn’t see him at his best when he had his unbeaten record snapped by McCarthy.

“I’m not taking anything away from Matt,” he said, “but I know 100 per cent that I did not perform that night.

“For whatever reason, I was off, I felt very flat.

“I wasn’t hurt, but the stoppage was right.

“I asked to be stepped up, it didn’t work out and now I have to rebuild again. I know I have to prove myself again and I would love a rematch.

“But I need to rebuild before that can happen.”

Tickets to see Tony on the Mickey Helliet's Hellraiser Boxing show at the York Hall are available from 07989 948951.
