Nathanael Wilson says a third episode in the Chris Eubank-Nigel Benn rivalry is two years away ahead of the biggest fight of his career next month.

Manager Mickey Helliet did have plans to match Wilson, one of Eubank’s three fighting sons, with Harley Benn.

That plan was shelved after Benn was shocked by Lee Hallett in May and while he looks to rebuild, Wilson pushes on towards a shot at the Southern Area super-lightweight championship.

The 31 year old from Croydon is matched with Jumanne Camero on Helliet’s show at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, October 12.

Camero has challenged for Southern Area honours at 9st 9lbs and Wilson regards their six rounder as “possibly” his toughest fight yet.

He’s had three straight wins since Jonny Philips stopped him – and says Benn faces a similar rebuilding job.

“It’s taken me a couple of years to rebuild,” said Wilson, “and now he has to do the same.

“I shouldn’t have been stopped, but people don’t remember that. After a defeat, you have to get fights under your belt and get your name back out there.

“I’ve had three wins and now I could be one or two fights away from a shot at the Southern Area title.

“If it doesn’t happen this year, it should happen early next year.”

Unless Wilson slips up against Camero.

“We were looking for a tough, durable opponent who comes to win,” said Wilson. “He has a good amateur pedigree, so he can box. I know he’s possibly going to be the toughest opponent I’ve faced so far.”
