Rockin Robin Dupre on the Comeback Trail

Dagenham cruiserweight Robin Dupre has a scary new trainer who he says will bring out the best in him.

Dupre will have Mark Patrick in his corner when he returns to the ring at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, February 10.

For Dupre, it will be his first fight since he was beaten in six rounds by Luke Watkins for the vacant Commonwealth title last October.

The 30 year old has turned to his former amateur coach as Nigel Carroll battles cancer and said: “I’m a bit afraid of Mark – and that’s what I need.

“I keep my mouth shut when I’m in the gym with him and get on with my work.

“He’s very strict with me. I don’t get away with anything with Mark.

“I’ve known Mark since I was an amateur at Dagenham. He was in my corner then and I don’t think I ever lost a fight with him.

“He knows how to get the best out of me.”

Dupre says that once his next fight is out of the way, he will be ready to roll the dice again.

“I took a risky fight for the Commonwealth title,” he said, “and the risk didn’t pay off.

“But I’m ready to take more risks once I’ve got this next fight out of the way.

“I have the determination to get in there with good fighters and beat them.

“I had a good, tough fight with Luke and I enjoyed it – apart from the ending obviously!

“Luke was  strong, but I really felt I was doing what I wanted to do in there and was winning the fight.

“Then he put me on the floor at the end of the fourth round.

“I got up, caught him with a good right hand and I started trying to fight him on the inside, which was a mistake.

“I should have stuck to just keeping it long because that was working, but I got it wrong and I’ve learned from that.”

Tickets for the Mickey Helliet's Hellraiser Boxing show at the York Hall are available from 07506 901354.
