The Upsetter Eyes World Title Glory

Ovill McKenzie has landed an unexpected, short notice shot at the IBF World title.

The 35-year-old will travel to Argentina, to face current champion Victor Ramirez, on October 2nd.

Ramirez was promoted to IBF champion after its predecessor, Yoan Pablo Hernandez, was forced to vacate through injury. Ramirez had previously held the interim title after beating the UK’s Ola Afolabi earlier this year.

Jamacian born McKenzie, who has earned somewhat of a cult status in recent years, is currently ranked 14th with the IBF and has been handed the chance to fulfil a lifelong dream.

McKenzie took to Twitter to express his excitement ahead of the clash:

This is the opportunity I will not waste!#DreamComeTrue

Now training out of the renowned Peacock Gym in Canning Town, the current British & Commonwealth Cruiserweight Champion aims to capture a World Title at the first time of asking.

Following defeat in the rematch to Enzo Maccarinelli in August 2013, McKenzie has looked somewhat rejuvenated since beating Tony Conquest, Matty Askin and John-Lewis Dickinson.

Can ‘The Upsetter’ cause a stir in South America?
