WBC Want Wilder Versus Joshua Unification

Mauricio Sulaiman, President of the World Boxing Council, is keen for their heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder to face Anthony Joshua straight away in a unification bout. Joshua and Wilder are without question the most well known, exciting names in heavyweight boxing, but the issue remains that AJ is by some distance the division's brightest star, and therefore demands a bigger share of the spoils.

Eddie Hearn has made an offer to the Joseph Parker camp, in what would also be a unification (Parker holds the WBO heavyweight title), which the New Zealander's deemed derisory. Sulaiman said, "The reality is that Deontay Wilder is the WBC Champion. He's a solid Champion, has been there for a time, proving his punching power... and his fitness!

"Joshua is a tremendous athlete and a tremendous Champion, and I don't think economics should get in the way of having this great fight. It's a fight that the World wants, and they must understand that they have to give the World and Boxing fans what they expect.

"So this fight should be made. There's no need to delay it. The WBC has expressed absolute support for the fight and I'm sure that the other organizations will do the same. So, I think everyone should get on with it!"

Eddie Hear is concerned that Wilder doesn't have the star power yet to make everyone involved the money necessary for such a big and risky fight, and wants to build his name both in the UK and America. However, understandably, Wilder is keen, as champion, to be fighting the best. The WBC President confirmed this,

"Deontay really wants this fight. He has seen three fights fall apart due to adverse findings, he has suffered and he's had to wait. Joshua has capitalized very well knocking out Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium. That was a huge statement, so...The Fight is ready to take place!"
