World Boxing Round Up: Fight Week!

It’s Fight Week!

This Saturday sees six Hellraisers fighting at the York Hall Brawl, a Cyclone Promotions in association with Hellraiser Boxing event, which is headlined by Andrew Selby. He fights Maximino Flores in a WBC world flyweight title eliminator. Hellraiser fighter, unbeaten Robin Dupre, gets a shot at the Commonwealth title against also undefeated Luke Watkins. It’s a big test for Dupre, and manager Mickey Helliet is confident he can do the business, “this is a fantastic opportunity for Robin and I’m sure he’s going to get that beautiful belt.”

Also on the bill is Asinia Byfield, who is looking to keep his great 2017 going, having destroyed John Brennan and Sam McNess already. Hollywood Josh is also on the bill, the 7-0 stylist is edging ever closer to a a title shot. Heavy handed Gelasius Tarru has put away all three of his opponents so far, and Mickey has trouble finding people who will fight him, he’ll be looking for win number four. Two newcomers will be stepping out for the first time, Ihsan Khan and Terry Russell are both hoping to make waves in the pro game.

Tickets are still available and the top end of the card will be live on Channel 5.

Breidis Outscores Perez

The third quarter final of the World Boxing Super Series saw former heavyweight Mike Perez drop a points decision to unbeaten Mairis Briedis in Latvia. A point deduction for a low blow didn’t make an impact on the result as Briedis retained his WBC cruiserweight belt to move to 23-0 (18). Perez is left with some difficult decisions as he’s lost at world level in two weight divisions now, and his record drops to 22-3-1 (14). The tournament now has three semi finalists decided, Oleksandr Usyk, Yunier Dorticos and Briedis, with one of Murat Gassiev or Krzysztof Wlodarczyk set to join them.

Hellraiser’s Steve Fearon has written in depth reviews of each quarter final, and a prediction for the tournament as a whole. He was bang on the money for Usyk’s win over Huck, missed with the Dorticos early KO (but nobody predicted that!) and got the correct winner in this fight, picking Briedis, but by stoppage. You can find the preview of Gassiev versus Wlodarczyk here, and the tournament winner prediction here.

Fielding Blasts Brophy

British super middleweight champion Rocky Fielding added David Brophy’s Commonwealth title to his name with an astonishing first round knockout. Fielding was on the other end of a round one stoppage when he first fought for the British title in 2015, against Callum Smith. Hellraiser’s Darryll Williams is the English super middleweight champion, defending that against Lennox Clarke on November 18th, and the British title “absolutely” something he’s targeting soon, says Mickey Helliet. Fielding vs Williams would be a war, no doubt about it.

Chris Kongo Added To York Hall Brawl

Former Team GB boxer Chris “2Slick” Kongo has been added to this Saturday’s York Hall Brawl show. The super welterweight from Bermondsey has now racked up five victims as a professional with three knockouts, the most recent of which was on Hellraiser’s High Stakes show in May. Chris is an exciting fighter to watch, and a great card just got even better!
