York Hall Fan Thomas Looking To Establish His Name

Kian Thomas is targeting a breakthrough year after switching trainers.

The 26 year old from Kentish Town will have new trainer Xavier Miller in his corner when he has his ninth professional fight on promoter Mickey Helliet’s show at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, February 10.

Thomas believes Miller can help him take his career to the next level.

“This time next year, I want to be an established name,” said Thomas.

“There are fighters out there who are well known who I am better than.

“I think I am one of the best welterweights or super-lightweights in the country and this year is all about pushing on.

“I’ve got some rounds under my belt, I’ve boxed on a big TV show and after my next fight, I’m looking for eight rounders and then eliminators and title fights.”

Thomas says Miller has made a few tweaks to his boxing since they teamed up a few weeks ago.

“Xavier likes the way I box,” said Thomas, “and he just wants me to be a bit sharper and stronger.

“We haven’t been together long, but I like what he’s showing me.”

Thomas says he’s looking forward to boxing at the York Hall again after having his last fight at Wembley Arena, on the undercard of George Groves defending his WBA super-middleweight title against Jamie Cox.

“It was good to box on a big show,” said Thomas, “but there wasn’t much of an atmosphere.

“The crowd were too far away and I much prefer the atmosphere at the York Hall.

“It’s always noisy when I fight there.”

Tickets for the show are available from 07821 438079.
