Write up of "Quicksilver" Phil Bowes facing tough Glenn Foot for the English super lightweight title at York Hall on 27th May 2017.
Leytonstone super-lightweight Philip Bowes is planning to become the No 1 contender for the Southern Area championship. The belt is currently held by Rakeem Noble and Bowes has plans to take it off him by the end of the year. The 31 year old southpaw has put together three straight wins since joining Hellraiser Promotions - and is back in the ring next month. He's matched with Belfast's tough James Gorman over six rounds - and sees the fight as a stepping stone to another shot at the Southern Area title. Bowes, beaten on points by Johnny Coyle when he fought for the belt a year ago, said: "I'm trying to get into the mandatory position for the Southern Area title. "I know I'm a difficult opponent for anyone and want to make it so the champion has to fight me. "I was at ringside when Noble won the title and that's a fight I want. "I'm hoping the fight can happen by the end of the year. I've just got to keep winning and see what comes up." Bowes says his gym mates are bringing the best out of him as he prepares for the 15th fight of his professional career. He trains at the Limehouse Marina with Barry Smith and Harry Andrews - and his sparring partners include Larry Ekunadyo. He's currently ranked in the top 30 by the WBC and defends his African Boxing Union welterweight title in the top-of-the-bill fight on next month's show. Bowes said: "It's great sparring. It's like a chess match. We are always trying to trick each other into making mistakes." Tickets for the show at the York Hall are available from 07932 064548.

Siar Ozgul can book a title shot with victory at the York Hall next week. The Hackney-based Turk goes into his fight in Bethnal Green on Saturday, June 4 as the mandatory challenger for the Southern Area super-lightweight championship. Rakeem Noble has decided to vacate the belt rather than face 'The Lionheart of Istanbul' - and boxing bosses have now paired him with Kay Prosper for the title. Prosper posted on social media last week that he was struggling to find opponents - and Ozgul immediately challenged him ! The unbeatens now clash for the Southern Area strap on Saturday, July 16 - providing Ozgul wins his next fight at the York Hall. Prosper made it nine wins out of nine on the big David Haye show at the O2 Arena on Saturday night and Ozgul is convinced he will end his unbeaten record. He said: "The Southern Area title is a big title, but for me, it's just the start. "I'm planning to win many more titles after the Southern Area title. "Prosper is a good fighter, but I'm better. He says nobody will fight him, but I'm not scared of him. I'm not scared of anyone. I will fight him - and I will beat him." Tickets for the show at the York Hall are available from

Archway super-welterweight Tony Milch faces a make-or-break fight next month. Manager Mickey Helliet has promised Milch a title shot this summer - possibly at the British Challenge belt - if he extends his winning record at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, June 4. Milch is set to be matched over four rounds - and knows he can't afford to lose. "It looks like I'm fighting for a title in July," said the 34 year old, "but your next fight is always your most important fight. "I need to win this next fight to get to title level. "I'm probably going to be matched with a journeyman next month, but they are tough and can all swing a punch. "I know it's a risk. "I don't have to take this fight, but I haven't fought for six months and really need to get back in the ring." Milch has been ruled out by a rib injury since outpointing Kevin McCauley at the Camden Centre last December. That was his ninth straight win since he turned professional three years ago and kept him on course for championship honours. "We are chasing the Southern Area title," said Milch, "but it looks like I will be fighting for the British Challenge belt if I come through my next one. "That will be over eight rounds and winning that will keep me on course for the Southern Area title." Milch is getting top quality sparring in the countdown to his next fight. He's sparring stable mate Lenny Daws, currently preparing for his rematch with Ruben Nieto for the European super-lightweight title. "I couldn't ask for better sparring," said Milch, sponsored by Red Dog Salloon. "Lenny throws hundreds of punches every round. It's so intense. I'm going to spar 36 rounds with him and after that I will be ready for anyone they put in front of me." Tickets for the show at the York Hall are available from 07989-948951.
